MATTHEW HARWOOD

Jungian Analysis & Psychotherapy

I BELIEVE

+  THAT all human beings have the innate capacity to realise their true potential.

+  THAT psychotherapy & analysis are powerful methods of resolving the unconscious beliefs & stuck areas which tend to impede such development.

+  THAT clients in therapy should be helped to find & develop their own values & beliefs, and to find the answers that are right for them, irrespective of whether or not they fit in with anyone else's opinion, or any kind of theory.

+ THAT therapists should be open to integrating into their way of working whatever insights and techniques from other traditions they find helpful.

+  THAT the most important priority for any practising therapist is to work on himself, his dreams & his own personal issues, and to allow himself to be guided by the voice of the objective psyche.

'It costs so much to be a full human being that there are very few who have the enlightenment or the courage to pay the price... One has to abandon altogether the search for security, and reach out to the risk of living with both arms.  One has to embrace the world like a lover.  One has to accept pain as a condition of existence.  One has to court doubt and darkness as the cost of knowing.  One needs a will stubborn in conflict, but apt always to total acceptance of every consequence of living and dying.'  (Morris West)
